About the Server

Claytonia has been online since 2012, making it one of the longest-running survival servers around. The current world has been active since 2014.

Spawn moves when there is a major update, keeping new players close to new terrain.
No ranks, no paywalls, no chaos. Just Minecraft as it was meant to be played.
The server is maintained by a small group of Minecraft fans who prefer a classic vanilla experience.
Everyone has access to simple, useful commands like /spawn, /home, and /tpa.
Every action is logged, so griefing or accidents can be undone in seconds.
Spawn protection covers a large area — you’ll need to travel 500+ blocks to start building.

Type /einfo in-game for detailed info and available commands.

Claytonia’s world is ancient. On October 24th, 2025 at 11:15 PM, the in-game clock read 5:21 PM, August 9, Year 752 — meaning the world has lived through 752 full Minecraft years.

3810 days ÷ 365 = approximately 10.4 real-world years of uptime.

In mid-2014 to early 2015, Minecraft 1.8 was the stable Java Edition version when this map began.

One of our most popular servers, Our Project Zomboid server, has been online since 2018 and continues to be the most populated and long-running non-steam servers.
Our server runs without steam and can be joined by both steam and GoG versions of the game.

Troubleshooting

Steam Version

To join us while running the Steam version, you must first:

- Right click Project Zomboid in your Steam library. - Click Properties. - Add -nosteam to your launch options. Example.- Relaunch the game and search for Claytonia in the server browser.

GOG Version

People who bought the game on GOG.com might run into an issue joining the server where it says a file is missing on the server. In this case, the fix is to find and rename the file locally. An example of this is to rename /path/to/Project Zomboid/game/projectzomboid/media/lua/shared/Util/Vector2.lua to something like Vector2.lua.gog. When renaming the file, the important part is that is no longer ends in .lua. You could delete the file, but doing so would require a complete reinstall if the file is needed again later.

We have a server running a custom mod pack.
We took Better Minecraft 3 (BMC3) forge edition and added in some tech and magic mods.

The server is white-listed, and you must either be invited or request access via Discord.
Server auto reboots daily at 07:00 and 19:00 (EST)
Each player can only force load 1 chunk, make good use of that chunk!

FAQ

Build Protection:

The questions we get asked the most on Discord are:

Can I protect my builds/island from trolls?
Can I stop people from stealing from my chests?

The simple answer is no.

Explanation: The game offers little to no server admin tools to deal with trolls, and the modding community is still in its infancy. When / If these tools become available, we will implement them ASAP.
Solution: If you're concerned about people stealing your stuff or breaking your buildings, I would recommend going far away from spawn before you start to build.

If people can't find you, they can't steal from you (or break your builds).

Server Population:

The other most asked question on discord is:

Does anyone play on this server, or is it dead?

Answer:

It all depends on time zone. Sometimes the server is full, sometimes it is empty. Try different times of the day. As of May 10th, 2023, the server averages between 10 and 20 unique connections per day.
In the #bot-stuff channel on our Discord if you type ?rank necesse it will unlock a channel called #necesse-server-chat where you can see in-game chat including join messages when someone joins the server.

Necesse New Spawn Island After Every Restart

I'm getting a lot of DMs on how the Claytonia server makes a "new" spawn island after every restart. I wanted to put the information out there somewhere, so people can search for it.

This isn't a great way to do this, and can cause issues. Use it at your own risk.
I don't use a game server manager, I cannot help you achieve this using a server manager or if you're using windows to host your server.

How To:
1. Make a master copy of the spawn island file. (It's a .dat, found in the saves directory.)

2. During restart of the server, remove the spawn isle .dat file and replace it with the saved master copy.

Here is the code snippet that makes a fresh spawn island after every restart. This snippet comes from the restart/update script. Please note: Your start island will have different coords!

How to use TS3AudioBot

The Claytonia Gaming Teamspeak server uses TS3AudioBot for music. Below are helpful notes that I have taken to aid in the administration and usage of the bot. I've gone through the GitHub issues and Swagger API docs to find this info, and I wrote it all down for easy reference next time.

These are my personal notes and I want to share them publicly in an effort to help people use TS3AudioBot in the future.

Aliases must be added to each bot individuality.
To add an alias, use these commands:

If YouTube links aren't working with a !play alias, you might have to add [URL] before the link.

Youtube-dl

Youtube-dl is required if you want to play music (or playlists) from YouTube, but Youtube-dl is old and doesn't always work. I found that using yt-dlp works better.

Install as same user that runs the bot.

pipx install -U yt-dlp

After install, it will tell you where the binary was installed. Copy that path and put it in ts3audiobot.toml

We run a private, white-listed, modded server for Claytonians to use.
Information about our public server can be found here.

RULES:

This is a friendly server where people don't live in fear of raids or stolen items/vehicles.
1. NO raiding, griefing, or stealing.
2. IF IT'S NOT YOURS, DON'T TOUCH IT.
3. Be careful with fire! It spreads!
4. Don't be an ass.

INFO:

* Server is mostly default settings. Ask on Discord if you have specific questions.
* Loot respawns after 1 month, only if the area has been unseen for 7 days or more.
* Zombies respawn after 1 week, only if the area has been unseen for 2 days or more.
* The server and mod versions will not update.

We run the game without Steam. Steam causes more issues than it solves. Especially in 41.77.
Don't worry, you can still play with the copy you bought on Steam! You can read how to turn off Steam integration here.

The mods we chose to use are mostly QoL and feature adding, nothing that breaks immersion or doesn't fit with the vanilla game style. You can see the mods we are playing with by downloading the mod pack and looking at the directory names.
Unfortunately, you can't use Steam to download the mods because we turned Steam off! Bummer.
You will have to download the mods from us and place them in the correct directory. It's a pain in the ass, but solves a ton of issues with versioning and updates.

Unzip and place the mods in %UserProfile%\zomboid\mods, on Linux it's /home/$user/Zomboid/mods.

Version

You will need to select the 41.77 beta in the game properties. Right-click on the game in your steam library and run the legacy41_77 build of the game. Example

How To Join:

The server is mostly by invite only, but we will consider requests to join. To request access to the private server, we ask that you follow a few simple steps to show that you can read, understand, and follow instructions/rules.

Getting White Listed

1. Join the Claytonia Discord. Find the link. It's on this website, lots of places.
2. In the #bot-stuff channel, type ?rank zomboid2
This one is tricky, it's two parts, a channel and a command. Maybe read it twice?
3. In the newly visible channel #zomboid-modded, ask to be white-listed. Please include a statement that you understand the rules. We are going to ask you about rule number two, so if you want to save time, copy and paste rule number two into your message.
4. Wait, we are adults with jobs and families. When we read your request, we will talk to you and get you white-listed ASAP.

This sure is a lot of hoops to jump through just to play on your stupid server!

YEP, sure is. And we can be 100% sure that our builds, and yours, will be safe. We also don't want kids and morons on the server, these steps stop them, really well!

- Using the built-in Gitea backup dump, a backup is created weekly, encrypted, and is sent to two different cloud storage providers. We have tested the restoration process and have no doubt that in the case of catastrophic failure we're able to restore the instance within a few hours.

This is a free service and is run in our spare time. Server Information

A public Rimworld Together server!
We have had a Rimworld Together server online since early 2024.
A list of server configs is available.
Server reboots and updates daily. See in game broadcasts for info.
We will only reset/wipe the saves when the mod requires it. Once or twice a year.

DLC

All DLCs are optional. You can use some, all, or none of the DLCs.

Mods

No required mods.
- Mods are optional. Use 200 or none, up to you!
Using, updating, or changing mods is a risk.
- We do not recommend playing with extra mods!
- Using extra mods is at your own risk. Your save will probably end up corrupted.
You can add mods to the optional list here. (This tool comes with no support)

How the Server Works

This server uses RimWorld Together, which is not traditional multiplayer co-op.
You are not sharing a single live map or directly controlling the same pawns as another player.

Instead, it is a shared persistent world with asynchronous interaction.

Persistent server, individual colonies

The server runs continuously and acts as a central hub for saves
When you play, you download your latest server-stored colony state
Each player still controls their own colony independently

Think of the server as a persistent world database, not a live RTS session.

Visiting other colonies

You can visit other players’ settlements at any time
What you see is a snapshot or server-side representation of that colony

There is no real-time shared control or synced decision-making.

Raiding and interaction rules

Raiding other colonies is enabled
Raids function as instanced encounters for the attacker, with rewards and risk, but no permanent harm to the defender

This design prevents griefing while still allowing PvP-style content.

No live co-op gameplay

You cannot pause or speed-control the same map together
You cannot directly affect another player’s ongoing session
Even when multiple players are online, each colony runs independently

What this means in practice

You are not playing with other players in the classic sense.
You are playing next to other players in the same persistent world.

The server enables:

Shared world context
Visiting, raiding, and spying
Long-running, always-online progression

It does not enable:

Live shared maps
Real-time co-op control
Permanent damage to other players’ colonies

Troubleshooting

Before we start;

We can't help with individual mod issues, there are just too many mods.
- Try removing the mod causing the issues.
We will not help with modded games. Help will only be provided for games with zero extra mods active.

Answers to common questions on Discord:

Is the server dead? Why is the server empty?
- The number 1 asked question!
- Answer
If you get a Connection Lost message, reconnect.
- Note that on first character creation, you might need to reconnect 2 or 3 times before you get into the game. It's a mod thing, has nothing to do with the server.
When I try to connect, nothing happens, it just says connection lost.
- This is often because the mod version on your client doesn't match the server.
- You can force update RWT by unsub and resubscribing to the mod in the workshop.
I can't select a location to start a colony.
- On the planet screen where users select a tile to start a colony, the "Next" button at the bottom is missing.
- This is a known mod issue and should be fixed with the next update.

Why is the server empty?

Imagine the world is like a big clock, and not everyone is awake or asleep at the same time. When it's daytime for you, it might be nighttime for someone else far away.

Time Zones:

The world is divided into different time zones.
When it's morning in one place, it's nighttime in another.

Primetime:

"Primetime" is when most people in a certain area are awake and playing games.
If you're playing when it's the server's primetime, the server will be full of players.
But if it's primetime in a different time zone, and not ours, the server might feel empty.

Example:

You might be playing in the morning in your country, but in another country, it's the middle of the night, so fewer people are playing.

TL;DR:
So, if a server seems empty, it might just be because it's not primetime in the time zone where most players are from.

You Can Help:

Invite Friends: Ask your friends to join the server. The more people, the more fun!
Advertise the Server: Share the server info in appropriate places like gaming forums, social media, and gaming communities (check the community rules before advertising!).
Join During Primetime: Try to play when it's primetime for most players on the server.
Stay Active: Even if it's not primetime, staying active can encourage others to join.

By doing these things, you can help make the server more lively and fun for everyone!
