Hi guys,

With the Christmas season coming and everyone being ever-so-slightly more social, hackers and problem-causers try to use this spirit to spread viruses of all sorts.
Quite recently, there has been an outbreak of a Skype-transmitted RAT (Remote Access Trojan).

This kind of virus acts extremely quickly and with excellent precision, making itself almost un-removable without a factory reset.
Consequences of being infected can include complete loss of control over your pc, stolen files and data, more infections being sent to other people you know, and rendering your pc completely useless without reinstalling the operating system

Generally the sender will try to disguise the file as something else (like an image), but the file is actually a .jar file, which is a Java executable.

Here is an example:

For those of you who could be affected, check your Skype settings to make sure that "automatically accept files" is disabled, and that "always show file types" is enabled.
Also, don't accept files from people whom you don't know, and even double check with people that you do know.

Be careful over the Christmas break,
Seasons Greetings
Like what you see here?

We can't keep doing it without you!

Thanks for the tip Tslat, a lot of people don't watch for things like that, it's great that you put this here for them to see. Always check out what a link really says as well, because it can easily not lead to the website  that it says it does.
