I've been researching bows for the past few days, and am wondering if any members have knowledge on the subject.

I started with compound bows, but learned that they are costly and have a lot of upkeep/maintenance issues.  I've since turned to recurves because of their simplicity and ease on the wallet.  I've no intention for hunting (except maybe the gophers that keep eating my grapes), so there's no need for equipment meant to take down anything larger than small game.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I know a bit about them, just not shopping for them. I prefer a compound myself, but can use either.

Compound bows got me interested in this to begin with, so i may end up buying one after my recurve.  For now, i just want to learn with an inexpensive (under $200) recurve.  I think I've got it down to a few; the forerunner being the Martin Jaguar Takedown (45pound draw) for around $150.

I just have the one where you put some sticks and string together, sometimes I enchant it

Careful...if you enchant it too much, you'll never be able to repair it!

If you did get to that point, you should probably start asking yourself why you don't think about things before you do them.

Not yet, i've only enchanted so far as to need 6 levels for repair.  I wonder how much it takes though...

My bow requires 39 levels to repair, which is the max..
