Title: we need class
Post by: elboone on December 12, 2013, 04:43:01 PM
Ranger + staring bow skill
paladin + starting sword skill
fighter + starting axe skill
fisher + starting fishing skill
rouge + starting acrobatics skill
miner + starting pickaxe skill
farmer + starting farming skill
blacksmith + starting smithing skill

Apprentice classes

blacksmithing- Can create any one piece of equipment from diamond but only that one type. (example: An elf who takes this class picks the d-sword. He can finally craft that d-sword but is not aloud to create armor or enchanting table's.)

enchanter- Can enchant equipment with only one type of enchantment but any level, all other accidental enchantments are considered failed enchants and must be discarded. (example: A human decides he wants to be able to put smite on his weapons, but accidentally enchants his d-sword with sharpness. His weapon would be destroyed by the failure to create smite. This is when books would be a much better option.)

alchemist-  Can create any strength of a single potion. This does not include awkward potions( Unless picked you would still have to trade with humans.). (example: a dwarf wants to create heath potions for battle. He chooses health potions but still needs awkward potions. So he trades with humans to get the potions.)

These are my best idea's. i hope you all like them.

Do you mean this as a replacement for elf, dwarf, etc..? I don't think it'll work

Classes are usually separate from races in most rpg's... think of them as vocations, usually a bundle of appropriate skills that one of that class would get bonuses in or that only that class can use.  Though the bonuses he's talking about are from the mcMMO skills.

I have been looking at a plugin to do this. I have some free time (finally) this weekend and will be doing plugin fine tuning. Along with adding new plugins that allpone deems worthy of the server.

I like the idea, it needs refinement however... Also, Elves can always craft enchantment tables... We're the only ones that can...

I'm not personally a fan of the class system, but mostly because I find it too narrow. If you go with general races, as we have now, it opens up possibilities for more (and besides, with MCMMO people tend to specialize in certain fields anyways; Splat and his acrobatics, and then others with their fishing...). Then again, if classes were an optional thing I wouldn't mind so much. I like the way things are right now.

I didn't specialise in acrobatics, it's just the first one i did...

I almost have 4 skills at 1000

Lol, my point was more that if people want to get ahead in certain skills it is very much possible without needing some class set up — not to mention class systems tend to be more restrictive because it emphasizes parent and child skills as opposed to availability of all skills.

Dunno, just my opinion~

I agree anyway lol

I think it would be nice to have classes that let people gain more experience in a certain skill, and less in another. For example, an Archer would get bonus experience in Archery, yet penalties to experience in the Melee combat skills.

Usually I'd like a class system, but for minecraft, I feel the point of it is to be a sandbox game where you can do whatever the heck you want. The restrictions based on races make the game more interesting by adding a fantastical point of view to it. but classes where some skills are buffed but others hampered would restrict this feeling of sandbox freedom too much. What if I want to duo in melee and ranged or make my own path? It would be much harder to. I suppose you could make the classes optional, but then Tslat would probably be able to OHKO someone with a bow if he got into an archery class :p It could be overpowering. I think the mcmmo works enough as a class system. If you want to become an archer, just level that up and you're more suited towards an archer.

Another possibility would be classes that just buff one skill, and do not debuff any others. Then, you could still have, for example melee and ranged, and specialize in Just one. It would let you have two skills that you like up there, just one would be better.

Personally, I'm not sure we'd need something like this.
Adding skill classes like that, I could only see it hampering the experience.
If you try to make it optional, or make it where it just buff a skill, that's just adding another ability and a title to the skills we already have.
And, I fully agree Millarz; it would really just diminish the sandbox feel of minecraft.
If it's a title you want, we can give ourselves that! Like Kat's a scribe, or T's a cheat-- I mean, skilled fighter ^^;;

A cheat??

If you were just boosting a skill and not negatively affecting others, then you're essentialy just giving free xp.
IF that's all you want, just put some effort into the game and level yourself geez

Just kidding around, man.   :P

But! Yes, you're completely right.
It makes no sense for me to have to endure getting my butt handed to me to level up my unarmed skill when someone else could do nothing and get much higher levels than I could get in a weeks worth of working.

You are only looking at it from one perspective. You would be able to train your unarmed just as fast as anyone else. If you did not choose to specialize in it, you would still be specializing in something else. Also, I see no indication anywhere that people would be able to do nothing and get higher levels than someone else. I honestly do not know where you got that from.

so basically it's just a way to get free levels when you start?
Title: Re: we need class
Post by: Millarz on February 15, 2014, 02:33:34 AM
Yeah essentially it's just giving free xp. Not free as in do nothing to get it free, but extra xp earned when doing something you'd already get xp for. It's not really needed. I'd say only have item starter kits truant don't restrict anything but just give the player a sword and a pick or bow and a pick or something so they aren't completely thrown into the already developed world. Then again, I'd think gain, I would hold the other people of the newbie's race would give them a little help at the beginning anyways, making that rather pointless. Excuse my typoes. I'm writing on an iPhone. Gotta love autocorrect.

^Much respect. Also, I agree with Blaid; as I said before, I think this whole class idea is silly and unnecessary and ridiculous.
