Title: Dating System
Post by: Kaz on December 10, 2013, 03:26:09 PM
I've come up with a nice way of dating things for the server; this is how Dwarves will date things, other races may use it as well.

Months:

Days:
Dates will be written as such:
Diem 10 of Finis, Anno 30, 2nd Era
Diem is the day, Anno is the year.

NEVERMIND! New idea!
Dates shall be written as such: (12/11/2013 is the example date)
Diem W11 Finis, Anno 302E
We are in the 2nd Era of Dwarves, the 1st Era of Dwarves ended after the destruction of Aggarae 30 Anno ago

How long ago was the destruction of Aggarae?  i'm not trying to be cheeky or anything, I'm working on like 8 relative stories (about my family, and my adventure to Varros for their records) for the elves, as well as a general timeline (again not the elvish timeline, but rather my own to be put in their library) for them.  Any reference points would be great.

The example date is "today's" date. 12/10/13 = 10/12/30. It has been only 30 Anno since Aggarae

Now to let my supernerd out  :/

Are we using standard D&D lifelengths?

Elves can live for over a millennium.

Dwarves 250 years I think

Human 90 years

Orc could be 500 years, but most die in combat before then (usually 100-150 years) & its really dependent on subrace.....so...

Golem  would completely depend on what they're made from.  Most metal golems would eventually oxidize, but a stone golem would pretty much last forever.

I'm not sure how old I want my character to be...

I think elves reach physical maturity at 25, and emotional maturity at 125.   That might help you decide on an age.

That's a good question, that would be up to Allpone though.

Wellz my character is the High Elf, so he should be older, right?

not necessarily.  That all depends on how you deem a High Elf.  Typically, they're a another common subrace of Elves, but instead of living in a forest, they prefer living in stone cities.

However, if you declare High Elf as a position within our realm, it makes sense for you to be at least 125 as any political/council spot should be held by someone with life experience/maturity for such an esteemed honor.

I think about 220 sounds good, since we live to be over 1000, right?

Yep.  Its more or less the mathematical equivalent of 20-25 in human years.
